Greek Yogurt Crunch Bowl

Short answer: Top 1 cup plain Greek yogurt with 1/2 cup berries, 2 tablespoons chopped almonds and 1 tablespoon chia seeds. Add a little honey and cinnamon if you like. Three minutes, no cooking.

This is the bowl for mornings when you open your window at 11 and have five minutes before a meeting. Greek yogurt brings most of the protein, the almonds and chia add crunch and fiber, and the berries make it taste like a treat.

Like every recipe on PingDiet, this one was developed by Michael Gonzales from standard ratios.

Why plain yogurt

Flavored yogurts often carry 12 to 18 grams of added sugar a cup. Starting plain lets you decide how sweet it is. A teaspoon of honey adds about 6 grams of sugar.

Meal-prep it

Layer the yogurt and berries in jars for three days. Keep the nuts and chia in a small bag and add them right before eating so they stay crunchy.

Nutrition estimate

One bowl comes out to about 392 calories, 29 g protein, 17 g fat, 34 g carbohydrate, 8 g fiber and 22 g sugar, with about 80 mg sodium. We worked that out from USDA FoodData Central values for each ingredient [1]. Brands vary, especially for yogurt, so check your labels if you track numbers closely.

Swaps and substitutions

  • Walnuts or pumpkin seeds work in place of the almonds.
  • Skip the honey, or use a few drops of vanilla extract for sweetness without sugar.
  • Skyr or cottage cheese work as the base.
