About Ping Diet

Practical, plain-language guides to intermittent fasting

Last updated: October 12, 2026 · PingDiet Editorial Team

PingDiet publishes practical, evidence-based guides to intermittent fasting and to eating fewer times a day. Our method is simple: count Pings, not calories. A Ping is any eating event, including a meal, a snack or a drink with calories. Most people get more from fewer, more deliberate eating events than from complicated rules.

What we cover

  • Fasting schedules: 12:12, 16/8, 18/6, OMAD and 5:2, and how to adapt them to age, shift work and family life.
  • What breaks a fast: coffee, tea, sweeteners, supplements and electrolytes, with the numbers behind each answer.
  • Fasting and your body: muscle, sleep, hunger and blood sugar, including where popular claims (such as "autophagy hacks") outrun the evidence.
  • Breaking a fast well: protein targets, simple meals and recipes.

What we don't do

We don't diagnose, treat or promise to cure anything. Fasting is an eating pattern, not a medical treatment, and it isn't right for everyone. Read who shouldn't fast before you start.

Who we are

PingDiet is written and edited by the PingDiet Editorial Team. Every article cites its sources, shows a last-updated date and is reviewed against our editorial policy.

Editorial policy

Our standard

Every PingDiet article starts with a direct answer, then shows the evidence behind it. We write for real people trying to eat fewer times a day, so we favor clear numbers, tables and plain language over hype.

Sources we use

  • First choice: randomized controlled trials and systematic reviews in peer-reviewed journals (found through PubMed and the Cochrane Library).
  • Reference data: NIH Office of Dietary Supplements fact sheets, USDA FoodData Central, the National Academies' Dietary Reference Intakes, and guidance from professional bodies such as ACOG and the American Diabetes Association.
  • Used with care: animal and cell studies. When a claim rests only on them, we say so.
  • Not used as evidence: testimonials, influencer posts or brand marketing, including from brands related to us.

Each article lists its sources at the end. We link to the original study or official page wherever possible.

How articles are written and updated

  • Articles are researched and drafted by the PingDiet Editorial Team and checked against the cited sources before publishing.
  • We review articles at least once a year, and sooner when important new research appears. The "Last updated" date shows the most recent review.
  • We don't make disease claims: no article says fasting or any product treats, cures or prevents a disease.
  • Corrections: if we get something wrong, we fix it and note the change at the bottom of the article. Report errors through our contact page.

Medical-safety disclaimer

PingDiet provides general health information, not medical advice. It isn't a substitute for advice from a doctor, registered dietitian or other qualified professional who knows your history. Talk to your clinician before you change how you eat, especially if you take prescription medication.

Who shouldn't fast

Do not fast, or fast only under medical supervision, if you: - Are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive - Are under 18 - Have, or have had, an eating disorder - Have type 1 diabetes, or take insulin or other medication that can cause low blood sugar - Are underweight, frail or recovering from illness or surgery - Take medication that must be taken with food - Have kidney disease, heart disease, gout or a history of low blood pressure or fainting

Stop fasting and seek care if you have chest pain, confusion, fainting, severe dizziness or symptoms that don't improve after eating.

Advertising and commercial content

Our articles are not paid for by any brand. If an article mentions a product made by a company related to us, it carries a visible disclosure (see Ownership). Product mentions never change our conclusions.

Ownership and funding

PingDiet is owned by Cloudalien Technologies LLC (owner: Michael Gonzales), which also owns a dietary supplement brand that sells products related to fasting, such as electrolyte powders. Full details are on our ownership page.

What that means for what you read

  • Disclosure every time: any article that mentions one of our own brand's products says so, next to the mention.
  • Limited mentions: our own brand appears only where it's genuinely relevant, and alongside the same caveats we'd apply to any brand.
  • No product claims beyond the label: we don't say any product treats or prevents disease.
  • Sales on the home page: our home page links to supplements from our own brand. Buying them is never required to follow the PingDiet method.

How PingDiet is funded

PingDiet is funded by its owner and by sales of our own brand's products linked from the site. No other brand pays for coverage.

Other sites

Cloudalien Technologies LLC operates other websites. PingDiet is edited independently and does not link to them as part of any promotion.
